KIA: missie # 16, 31 december, 1944, 11.00 uur (overdag) (of 11.57),  missie # 235 naar Hamburg, Duitsland met crew 35 pilot Monit (vliegtuigcrash): plaats van overlijden/crash: Maschen, Duitsland (12 mijlen ten zuiden van Hamburg).

Begraven door de Duitse militairen op het burgerlijk kerkhof van Maschen (nabij Lüneburg), Duitsland op 4 januari, 1945  (Burgemeester van Maschen: Dr. Adolf Streitmann) / Joseph was begraven in 1 graf samen met 4 andere onbekende/ongeïdentificeerde vliegeniers.

 

Na de oorlog:

Herbegraven in Neuville-en-Condroz, België  (N-1-20) ten zuidwesten van Luik; naar Amerika teruggebracht per schip in 1949.

Vervolgens werd het vervoer van zijn stoffelijk overschot per trein # 12 van Columbus, Ohio op 9 mei, 1949 naar Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania op verzoek van de familie uitgesteld; vader Lazarus was ziek (hartklachten en trombose) en verbleef hiervoor in Florida om te herstellen en aan te sterken. Het uitstel van vervoer van het stoffelijk overschot duurde tot 17 juni 1949. De begrafenis werd gehouden op zondag 19 juni, 1949. Buried by the German Military  at civilian Cemetery of Maschen (near Lüneburg), Germany on January 4, 1945  (Bürgermeister of Maschen: Dr. Adolf Streitmann) / was buried in 1 grave with 4 other unknown/unidentified flyers.

After the War:

Re-buried at Neuville-en-Condroz, Belgium  (N-1-20) southwest of Liege; shipped to USA in 1949

Remains by train number 12 from Columbus, Ohio on May 9, 1949 to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was delayed on request of the family; father Lazarus was ill (his heart and thrombosis) and was staying in Florida for recuperation. The delay for shipment of the remains was till June 17th. The funeral services was held on Sunday June 19, 1949.
