Na zijn training op diverse militaire bases door heel Amerika, werd hij uiteindelijk ingedeeld als Private bij Headquarters Battery, 111th Field Artillery, gekoppeld aan de beroemde 29th Infantry Division (“Blue and Gray”).

Bijzonder detail is het feit dat John met zijn eenheid enkele dagen in mijn vaders dorp Oirsbeek, Nederland is geweest. Bijna 2 weken later is hij gesneuveld slechts enkele kilometers van mijn dorp Schinnen, Nederland.

Special detail is the fact John’s unit had a basecamp for several days in my fathers hometown Oirsbeek, The Netherlands. Almost 2 weeks later John was killed in action in Breberen, Germany just a few miles from my hometown Schinnen, The Netherlands.
