Details:
Met de opdracht om een vliegveld te bombarderen in de lage Rijnvallei verzuimde de Group haar bommen te gooien door een samenloop van omstandigheden. De 390th “B”Group werd gehinderd om te bombarderen door de bewolking en het falen van de Pathfinder-instrumenten. De “A”Group kon het vliegveld eveneens niet bombarderen vanwege de bewolking en falende Pathfinder.
“B” Group bracht hun bommen mee terug, met uitzondering van enkele vliegtuigen welke een pontonbrug over de Rijn bij Rhinau (Rheinau) als een laatste doelwit uitkozen. Enkele inslagen beschadigden tevens een aarden dijk.
Ondertussen vielen alle vliegtuigen van de “A” Group barakken aan bij Nagoid (Nagold) met slechts mager resultaat.

“Briefing om 3:30. Ze gaven ons 130 luchtafweergeschutten. Dit was bij Nonsberg, Duitsland (??Deze plaatsnaam moet een vergissing/schrijffout zijn). We hadden luchtafweer (Flak) op 4 verschillende plaatsen. Tjonge, we kregen enkele treffers en het was voor de eerste keer zo erg. We vlogen op 25.000 voet en het was 38 graden onder nul. Brand ontstond in de waist gunners positie, maar we kregen het geblust. We vlogen helemaal over Duitsland voordat we de bommen afwierpen.”

Details:
Assigned to hit an airfield in the lower Rhine Valley, the Group wasted its bombs under a peculiar set of circumstances. The 390th “B” Group was prevented from bombing because of cloud, and failure of pathfinder equipment. The 390th “A” Group, likewise, could not bomb the airfield because of clouds and inoperative pathfinder.
“B” Group brought back its bombs, with the exception of a few planes which selected a pontoon bridge across the Rhine River at Rhinau (Rheinau) as a last resort target. Some hits damaged an earthen dike.
Meanwhile all planes in “A” Group attacked a barracks area near Nagoid (Nagold)with poor results.

“Briefing at 3:30. They gave us 130 ack ack guns. This was on Nonsberg, Germany(???). We got flak on 4 different places. Boy, we got some hits and it was the first time it was so bad. We were on 25.000 foot and it was 38 degrees. A fire started in the waist, but we got it out. We flew all over Germany before we dropped out bombs.“
